 WENTWORTH STAT LEADERS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Leopards found themselves down early in the first set, but then came charging back. Following the early deficit, the visitors won 11 of 13 points to open up a sizeable advantage. Later in the set, the Colonels went on a pair of stretches to get back into it. They first won four consecutive points to bring themselves to within a 16-12 score, then just when it looked like Wentworth might pull away, won five of six points to stay in it. However, the Leopards were able to pick up the final points they needed to close out the set, earning a 25-20 victory and taking a 1-0 lead in the match.
  • Wentworth started off the second set strong, picking up seven straight points in the early going and went up 12-4. Curry, however, won six of the next seven to cut the lead to three but were unable to get any closer. Following four kills and a pair of service aces, Wentworth built a 20-14 lead, then were able to keep the lead the rest of the way as they picked up a 25-18 decision and built a two sets to zero lead.
  • The Colonels had an early lead in the third, but the Leopards ran off four straight points to take the lead. The home team responded, however, going on an 8-2 run to regain the lead at 12-8. That run was followed by a dominant stretch from Wentworth, who won 13 of the following 17 points to put themselves ahead by five in the late stages of the third. Following a point by Curry, the visitors won another three straight to gain a match point opportunity, which they competed, picking up a 25-19 win and sweeping the match three sets to none.

THE SERIES:

  • This was the 12th time that the two programs have met, with the Leopards now leading the series 11-1.
