RECORDS

WENTWORTH STAT LEADERS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Leopards fell in an early 4-1 hole in the first set following three kills and a service ace by the Scots. Wentworth came back with a pair of kills from freshman Helen Barthe (Blythewood, S.C.) and sophomore Lauren Edmiston (Hockessin, Del.) to draw even at five, then took a 10-9 lead after a kill by freshman Ema Thompson (Lewiston, Idaho). Gordon then went on a 10-2 run, taking control of the set and grabbing a 19-12 lead. Wentworth could not climb back into it, and the Scots took the opening set by a 25-15 score.
  • The two teams battled closely to open the second set. A pair of early kills from Thompson and Barthe got visitors within a point, as Gordon held a 10-9 advantage. After a pair of kills by junior Riley Waggoner (Simi Valley, Calif.), the Scots still held a 15-13 lead. But similar to the first set, the home team pulled away late. Gordon won seven of the following nine points, then closed the middle set out with a 25-17 win to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
  • The Leopards were unable to get back into the match in the third. The Scots jumped out to an 11-2 advantage in the set, and Wentworth couldn't come back from the early deficit. Gordon claimed a 25-11 win in the third, finishing out the match in straight sets.

THE SERIES:

  • This was the 25th all-time matchup between the two teams. Gordon now holds an 18-7 lead in the series.
