RECORDS

WENTWORTH STAT LEADERS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Wentworth jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in the first, but Suffolk cut away at the two-point deficit and tied the first set at six apiece. With the score tied at eight, the Rams started to create some distance. The home team took six of the next seven points to go up 15-9. The Leopards took the next five points to get within one, but Suffolk then answered with five straight of their own. Although Wentworth cut the lead down to four following a kill and service ace by freshman Abby Maher (North Granby, Conn.), that was as close as they would get. The Rams held off the Leopards and won the first set by a 25-19 score.
  • The Leopards looked to get back on track in the second, and took an 8-3 lead in the early going following a pair of service aces from sophomore Megan Davies (Chandler, Ariz.) and freshman Lexi Zabloudil (London, Ohio.). Suffolk got within two points at 12-10 shortly after, but Wentworth took five of the following seven points to push their lead back to four. With the Leopards still holding a four point advantage late in the set, the visitors took three straight points to put the set out of reach, eventually going on to win a 25-18 decision in set two.
  • The Rams attempted to turn things back to their side in the third, and following four consecutive points took a 5-2 lead in the early stages. Wentworth tied the set at six after kills from Maher and junior Riley Waggoner (Simi Valley, Calif.), and stayed deadlocked with Suffolk as the teams battled to an 11-11 tie. The Leopards took a two point lead after kills by sophomore Lauren Edmiston (Hockessin, Del.) and Maher, but the Rams came back to tie the set late at 19 apiece. But Wentworth was able to get kills from four different players over the last six points, including two from junior Viviann Goulet (North Kingstown, R.I.) to take the third set 25-22 and go up two sets to one in the match.
  • The Leopards took a lead early in the fourth set and never looked back. Thanks in part to three service aces from freshman Ashley Cao (Morrisville, N.C.), Wentworth went up 7-0 to start off the set. After Suffolk got on the board with a point, the visitors scored another seven unanswered points to go up 14-1. Junior Chaise Kakuk (Laguna Nigel, Calif.) added two service aces later in the set, and Waggoner added two late kills as the Leopards rolled to a 25-8 victory in the fourth to take a 3-1 victory and improve to 4-1 in conference play.

  • This was the 19th time the two programs have met. Wentworth now holds a 13-6 lead in the series.
