    HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Two early kills from sophomore Lauren Edmiston (Hockessin, Del.) got the Leopards off to a 3-2 lead. After a kill by freshman Abby Maher (North Granby, Conn.) made the score 5-3, the Hawks went on an 8-2 run to take an 11-7 lead. A kill by freshman Helen Barthe (Blythewood, S.C.) cut the deficit to two points, but Roger Williams followed with five straight points to create a seven point advantage. Wentworth started to come back late though, as kills by Edmiston and junior Riley Waggoner (Simi Valley, Calif.) were part of a 5-1 run that pulled the visitors within three. Still holding a three point lead, the Hawks won five out of six points to close out the first set 25-18 and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
  • A pair of kills from Edmiston and one from junior Viviann Goulet (North Kingstown, R.I.) drew the Leopards even at 3-3 to start the second. Roger Williams then took seven out of eight points to take a 10-4 lead. Three kills from freshman Ashley Cao (Morrisville, N.C.) and two from Edmiston closed the gap to 19-15, which was followed by the Hawks winning five of six to get to a set point, then got the final point needed to win the second by a score of 25-17.
  •  After picking up a quick 5-3 lead in the third, Roger Williams came back with three straight points to take the lead. An ace by Cao and kill by junior Viviann Goulet (North Kingstown, R.I.) were part of a 5-1 Leopard run to take the lead back. The Hawks, however, took eight of the next nine points to build a 15-11 lead. Wentworth fought its way back into the set, and a kill by Goulet tied the score at 17 and capped four straight points for the Leopards. But Roger Williams took over from there, winning eight of the final nine points to win the set 25-18 and take a 3-0 victory in the match.

    THE SERIES:
  • This was the 48th ever meeting for the two programs, with Roger Williams now holding a (45-2) lead all-time.
