WENTWORTH STAT LEADERS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Three early kills by freshman Helen Barthe (Blythewood, S.C.), junior Viviann Goulet (North Kingstown, R.I.) and senior Devin Neal (Loveland, Ohio) helped the Leopards get out to a 4-0 lead to open up the first set. However, Endicott got three kills of their own as part of four straight points to even the score. After the teams traded points, Wentworth won six of nine points to take a 13-10 lead, but the Gulls then rolled off eight of 10 to take their first lead, holding an 18-15 advantage. Goulet came through with two service aces, and the Leopards eventually took a 21-19 lead after a kill by Barthe. A pair of kills helped Endicott pull even, and the visitors were able to pull ahead at 24-23. After Goulet picked up another kill to tie the set at 24, the Gulls' Amanda Gilbert finished off the set with two straight kills, as Endicott took a close 26-24 decision.
  • Following a kill by freshman Abby Maher (North Granby, Conn.), Wentworth held a 3-1 advantage to start off the second set, looking to pull even in the match. The Gulls then went on a dominant stretch, as a 14-4 run helped them take the lead and pull away midway through the set. Barthe and sophomore Lauren Edmiston (Hockessin, Del.) picked up kills as part of a 5-1 run for the Leopards to get within four points, but the Gulls once again pulled away, winning 10 of the final 12 points of the set to take a 25-13 win and 2-0 lead in the match.
  • The visitors picked up where they left off, taking a 7-2 lead to start off the third. A kill by Edmiston helped Wentworth close the deficit to three points at 9-6, which was followed by a 12-4 from Endicott, as they jumped ahead to a 21-10 lead while getting kills from four different players during the run. The Gulls closed out the match shortly after, coming away with a 25-13 victory in the third to close things out.
