Student-Athletes Recognized on CCC Academic All-Conference Team
Thirty-three student-athletes representing all five Leopard fall sports honored for their work in the classroom
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Four hundred forty-three Commonwealth Coast Conference student-athletes were honored on Wednesday morning as the league announced its Fall Academic All-Conference Team. The fall list includes participants from each of the CCC's 10 full member institutions who participated in men's and women's cross country, field hockey, men's and women's soccer, women's tennis, and women's volleyball.
In order to be recognized as a member of the academic all-conference team a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.3 (on a 4.0 scale) and must also have attained sophomore status.
Nine members on this fall's team were also recognized for their academic accomplishments earlier this year when they were selected as the Senior Scholar-Athletes in their respective sports. Salve Regina's Jay Brennan (North Haven, Conn.) and Eastern Nazarene's Greg Whitney (Henniker, N.H.) were both named in men's cross country, while the University of New England's Brittney Sorbello (Dover, N.H.) took home the honor on the women's side. Three other Nor'easters, Desirae LeBlanc (Manchester, N.H.), Erik Holmqvist (Gothenburg, Sweden), and Taylor Littlefield Langevin (Sanford, Maine) were also given the honor in field hockey, men's soccer, and women's soccer, respectively. Joeanna Glantz (Agawam, Mass.) from Western New England and Jamie Zompa (Marlborough, Mass.) from Endicott shared the title in women's tennis and Roger Williams's Kristen Boyer (Bristol, R.I.) took home the honor in women's volleyball.
In addition to their academic prowess, seven student-athletes also displayed excellence in competition and received high honors at the end of their seasons. Nor'easter field hockey players Nicole Matarozzo (Wolfeboro, Maine) and Holly Smith (Peabody, Mass.) were key components to UNE's CCC Championship season as they received respective Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year recognition. Gordon's Damon Kilgore (Londonderry, N.H.) and UNE's Emma Robidoux (Fairhaven, Mass.) led the way at the CCC Cross Country Championships this fall and were named Runners of the Year. Endicott's Nick Weinstein (Trumbull, Conn.) was the men's soccer Defensive Player of the Year, while Wentworth's Emily Richard (Freemont, N.H.) was the Offensive Player of the Year for the CCC Champion Leopard women's soccer team. Gordon's Maggie Risma (Hudson, Ohio) earned a major award for the second year in a row when she was once again named Libero of the Year.
Overall there are 44 Academic All-CCC members who were also recognized as First Team All-CCC members. There were also 23 second team and 17 third team performers.
Wentworth placed 33 student-athletes on the fall academic all-conference team with all 33 spanning the sports of men's cross country, men's soccer, women's soccer, women's tennis, and women's volleyball.
