Student-Athletes Honored at Annual Senior Student-Athlete Reception

BOSTON, Mass. – On Wednesday night, the Wentworth Athletics department held their annual Senior Student-Athlete Reception, honoring the achievements of the senior class in their respective careers both in competition and in the classroom.

Below are the class of 2024's honorees for our annual major awards:

Carl A. Swanson Scholar-Athlete Award

First given in 1985, this award originally honored a male who has excelled, both athletically and academically, while showing exemplary character. The recipient of this award must have exhausted his athletic eligibility in the year they are honored. This award was named after the longtime Dean of Students at Wentworth.

This year's recipient is Clayton Harper of baseball.

Eugenia Louise Sweeney Scholar-Athlete Award

First given in 2002, this award annually honors a female student-athlete who has excelled, both athletically and academically, while showing exemplary character. The recipient of this award must have exhausted her athletic eligibility in the year she is honored. The award is named after Mrs. Sweeney, who with her late husband, Myles Elliott '28, were tremendous benefactors to Wentworth and the field on which Wentworth's soccer, lacrosse, and softball teams bear their name.

This year's recipient is Kaitlin Pettenger of softball.

Leopard Award for Athletic Excellence

This award recognizes the career of a graduating Wentworth student athlete, coach, staff or faculty member for exceptional athletic achievement, outstanding leadership or valuable contributions to the Wentworth Community. This award is only given in years worthy of such accomplishment.

This year's recipient is Jacob LaBouliere of men's volleyball.

In addition, the department installed eight new awards honoring outstanding athletes from each class during the previous season. The awards recognize one male and one female athlete from the freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior classes.
