TODD DOYLE
’09 (Basketball)
The 11th men’s basketball player to be
inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame, Todd
Doyle enjoyed an outstanding career on the hardwood for
the Leopards.
As a freshman, Doyle was named the Commonwealth Coast Conference
Rookie of the Year after averaging 10.3 points per game to go along
with 3.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.3 steals in 27 minutes played
per game. He shot 45% from the field and 79% from the free throw
line.
Doyle’s sophomore season resulted in the Leopards winning
the 2007 CCC Championship and which earned them a berth in the NCAA
Tournament for just the second time in program history. The road to
the championship was not an easy one as, to accomplish this,
Wentworth needed to win three games against higher seeds. Doyle
averaged 18.7 points per game during the CCC tournament, which
included the game-winning 3-point basket in a 69-68 upset win at
Gordon in the semifinals. An All-CCC selection, he averaged 15.3
points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.2 steals per game while
shooting 50% from the floor and 46.7% from behind the three-point
arc.
An injury-plagued junior season limited Doyle’s action on
the court but still earned Doyle All-Conference honors after
averaging 14 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists while shooting
45% from the floor and 81% from the free throw line.
As a senior, Doyle earned CCC Player of the Year honors and was
named All-Region by both D3hoops.com and the National Association
of Basketball Coaches. Doyle averaged 20.3 points, 2.7 rebounds,
2.3 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 50.5% from the
floor, 44.8% from behind the three-point arc and 92.6% (100-108)
from the free throw line, which ranked second in the nation.
Having played in 100 games, Doyle ended his career third in points
scored (1,504), field goals made (555) and 3-point shooting
percentage (42.2%). He ranks second among Wentworth’s leaders
in free throw percentage (82.7%) and fifth in total assists
(251).
A native of Mystic Conn., Doyle graduated with his
Bachelor’s degree in Management in 2009 and went on to play a
year professionally for the Leicester Warriors in the United
Kingdom’s English Basketball League. He scored 42 points in
his first professional game and was ultimately named to
Eurobasket.com’s All-British Second Team where he averaged
18.8 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game.
MICHAEL FISHER
’07 (Golf)
A four-year standout who helped the Wentworth
Institute of Technology golf team to three consecutive Commonwealth
Coast Conference Championships, Michael Fisher
becomes the second Leopard golfer to be inducted into the hall of
fame.
Fisher’s freshman season saw him average 79.63 strokes per
round, which included a season-best 73 in a match against Anna
Maria. Fisher helped the Leopards to a fifth place finish at the
CCC Championships after shooting a round of 76.
During his sophomore season, Fisher set the program record for
best scoring average in a season as he averaged 77.50 strokes per
round and helped the Leopards win their first-ever CCC
Championship. He shot a career-best 72 in a dual match against
Newbury later that season and tied for eighth overall at the New
England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships, earning him
All-New England honors. In addition to being the third Leopard
golfer to earn All-New England Honors, he was named All-Northeast
Region by the National Golf Coaches Association.
Posting four top 10 finishes and an average of 83.63, Fisher
helped Wentworth to a repeat CCC Championship with a seventh-place
finish. He posted a second-place finish at a quad match at Rhode
Island College and a third-place finish in a tri-match at Rhode
Island College.
Fisher’s senior campaign saw him average 76 strokes per
round over five rounds and helped the Leopards to their third
straight CCC crown after he shot a 74, which placed him third in
the field. His other top five finish that season came when he
finished second in a tri-match at Johnson & Wales.
Playing in 29 rounds over the course of his career, Fisher’s
scoring average of 79.52 ranks as the tops in program history and
he ended his career finishing in the top 10 at 19 events.
A 2007 graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in
Electromechanical Engineering, Fisher is a Quality Engineer with
the IBM Corporation in his hometown of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Still an
avid golfer, his success has carried over into the tournaments he
plays in as he has won numerous local tournaments and he has
competed at the state and national level. Mike and his wife,
Vanessa, recently welcomed their first child into the world, a son
Michael who was born on September 11.
STAN FEDORCHUK
’65, ’66 (Basketball, Baseball)
A two-sport athlete for the Leopards, Stan
Fedorchuk was a member of the basketball team for three
years – one of which he was co-captain and also played two
years on the baseball team and the 12th men's basketball and
seventh baseball player to be inducted. When Stan started Wentworth
it was a two-year school, however a new program allowed Stan to
transfer prior credits to complete another degree program.
Consequently, he graduated with two degrees, one from Aeronautical
Technology (AT ’65) and another from the Aeronautical &
Space Engineering program (ASE ’66).
Fedorchuk played for numerous coaches during his time at Wentworth
- Bob Whittimore (baseball), Leonard Cheney, John Kelly, Bill
Griffith and Frank Ryan (basketball) and he believes these coaches
should also receive recognition and appreciation. These coaches
gave of themselves providing leadership beyond the educational
environment while also being teachers, which took dedication. Two
highlights of Stan’s athletic career stand out. The highlight
of Stan’s baseball career was winning the Fifth Annual New
England Junior College Baseball Tournament in 1965 with wins over
Leicester Junior College and Dean Junior College. While a member of
the Leopard basketball team, they had the opportunity to play in
the old Boston Garden as a pre-game to the Celtics. Stan remembers
being in awe as he stepped out onto that basketball court.
Faced with being drafted (he received his Draft Notice for Vietnam
about two weeks before his graduation in June, 1966), Stan enlisted
in the U.S. Air Force. Because of his Wentworth education, he was
able to bypass the specialist training program and was sent
directly to duty where he served as a jet engine technician for
four years. Stan continued to pursue his athletic endeavors by
playing on the varsity basketball and fast pitch softball teams at
the U.S Air Force base and was even selected to an Air Force All
Star softball team.
After the Air Force, Stan was hired by Pratt & Whitney as a
Military Customer Support Jet Engine Engineer where he became a
Resident Engineer at Military Customer Facilities providing
training and engineering support. Stan believes this position was a
direct result of his education at Wentworth and the outstanding
reputation of Wentworth for providing dedicated professionals.
Stan’s position required moving to numerous locations,
including Washington D.C., San Antonio, Texas, and the Netherlands.
Even while moving Stan was able to pursue his passion for fast
pitch softball. While in the Netherlands, Stan played on the team
that won the Dutch National Championship. Stan also coached girls
middle school and high school fast pitch softball programs.
Stan retired from Pratt & Whitney as a Discipline Chief and
Technical Engineering Lead in December, 2010 after 40 years. Stan
continues to work at Pratt & Whitney on a part time basis at
their request providing his much needed experience for a special
program. Stan also continues to pursue his passion for softball. In
2013 he played on a team that played in the Senior
Olympics/National Games in Cleveland, Ohio. Stan still plays on a
senior softball team which has won its league championship two of
the last three years. A native of West Roxbury, Mass., Stan and his
wife, Gloria, of 41 years live in Middletown, Conn. They have two
daughters, Dawn and Stacy, and five grandchildren.
RACHAEL KELLEY
’05 (Soccer)
A standout defender who played on four of the
women’s soccer team’s most successful teams in program
history, Rachael Kelley becomes the seventh
Wentworth women’s soccer player to be inducted into the hall
of fame.
Kelley’s freshman season saw her start 13 of the 16 games in
which she played and helped the Leopards to an 11-6-1 record and a
berth in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament. The 11 wins
at the time established a program record for wins in a season and
she helped the team post a 1.29 goals against average while
shutting out opponents six times.
As a sophomore, Kelley started five of the 15 games in which she
played and was a key member of a Leopard squad that advanced to the
semifinals of the CCC Tournament and earned the program’s
first-ever berth into the ECAC Tournament. Wentworth shattered the
program record for wins, finishing 15-5, and posted a program-best
0.84 goals against average. The Leopards shut out their opposition
nine times that season, which, at the time, set a program
record.
The 2003 season marked another first for the Wentworth
women’s soccer program as the Leopards advanced to the CCC
title game for the first time, falling to Endicott, 2-1. Wentworth
earned its second straight berth in the ECAC Tournament and
finished with a 14-7 record. That season Kelley set a program
record by starting in all 21 of the Leopards’ games and
helped Wentworth to a 0.96 goals against average while shutting the
opposition out nine times.
As a senior, Kelley earned Third Team All-Commonwealth Coast
Conference honors after helping the Leopards to an 11-8-1 record, a
berth in the CCC semifinals, and the program’s third straight
ECAC Tournament berth. Starting in all 20 of the team’s
games, she was an integral part of a defensive unit that helped
post a 1.40 goals against average and shut out opponents a
program-record 10 times. She was also honored for her success in
the classroom as the 2005 recipient of the Eugenia Louise Sweeney
Senior Scholar-Athlete Award.
For her career, she ranks 12th on Wentworth’s career games
played list with 72 and is 14th on the career games started list
with 59. During her career, the Leopards posted a 51-26-1 record,
held opponents to 1.12 goals allowed per game, and posted 34
shutouts.
A 2005 graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil
Engineering Technology, she is a project manager with Kaplan where
she enhances Kaplan’s management team with her experience and
knack for value engineering, tight budget control, and coordination
of materials and schedules. She resides in her hometown of
Kingston, Mass., with her husband John Montosi.
