BOSTON, Mass. – Four Wentworth Institute of Technology men's basketball student-athletes scored in double figures, including senior Sam Goy (Derry, N.H.) who had a double-double with 13 points and a career-high 13 rebounds as the Leopards (2-1) outlasted Sarah Lawrence (0-4), 61-47, in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Both teams struggled to get on the board early, as the game was scoreless for the first 3:13 before Wentworth junior Tyler Stewart (East Taunton, Mass.) made a jumper. One of two free throws by Stewart 47 seconds later and a Goy basket with 14:30 left gave the hosts a 5-0 lead. Sophomore Russell Dolabany (Westwood, Mass.) extended the lead to 8-2 when he hit a three with 11:29 left and the Leopards had a 14-7 lead after a Stewart layup with 8:18 to play.
  • Sarah Lawrence pulled to within a pair (14-12) as sophomore Kyle Jefferson (Deer Park, N.Y.) made a jumper and freshman Noah Elovitz-Fields (Brooklyn, N.Y.) hit a three with 4:53 left. Sophomore Mike Yentin (Beverly, Mass.) hit a pair of free throws and junior Nathaniel Smith (Chicago, Ill.) made a jumper, making it an 18-12 contest with three minutes left. Sophomore Brady Burman (San Diego, Calif.) made a jumper to cut the lead to four, but junior Jack Connell (Walpole, Mass.) knocked down a three with 16 seconds left, giving the Black & Gold a 21-14 lead at the break. Wentworth held the Gryphons to 20.8 percent shooting in the first 20 minutes of action.
  • The teams traded baskets in the early going of the second half with Burman knocking down a three with 16:34 left to trim the lead to 24-21. A 6-2 spurt with Goy hitting two free throws with 15:49 left gave the hosts a 30-23 lead, however, Sarah Lawrence used a 10-3 run and tied the game at 33-all when Elovitz-Fields converted a three-point play with 13:50 remaining in the contest.
  • A free throw from Stewart and a three from Dolabany broke the tie and gave Wentworth a 37-33 lead with 11:45 to play. The Gryphons scored the next five points, taking their first lead (38-37) on a three from Burman. The lead would not last long as Stewart put home a layup on the next possession, which started an 8-0 run, capped off by a three from Dolabany with 7:31 left.
  • Burman hit one of two from the line with 6:40 left to make it 47-42 before an 11-2 Wentworth run gave the Black & Gold their largest lead of the game (14).
  • Connell led all scorers with 15 points while Stewart had 14 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three blocks. Dolabany's 12 points came on a career-high four three pointers. Wentworth had a 44-40 rebounding edge and held the Gryphons to 29.6 percent shooting for the game.
  • Burman led Sarah Lawrence with 12 points.
