Lasell Fends Off Men’s Basketball
Lasers edge Leopards, 84-79, with the Black & Gold nearly coming back from down 20; Jack Connell (26 points) and Tyler Stewart (23 points, 10 rebounds) lead all scorers

BOSTON, Mass. – Despite game-highs in points by Jack Connell (26, 9-for-18 FG) and Tyler Stewart (23, 7-for-9 FG), the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's basketball team (1-2) was fended off by the Lasell Lasers (4-0) by an 84-79 score in non-conference play Tuesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After the two teams swapped splashes to open the game, Lasell went on a 10-0 run to grab a 12-2 lead with four points coming from Marcus Lewis. A three by Jayden Williams started a 10-2 run for the Leopards, cutting the deficit to 14-12. Two threes by Conan McCusker helped the Lasers on a 20-2 run, marking a 34-14 score.
- The two teams traded points before six-straight points from Connell helped carve the deficit at 36-24. Another three from Connell later marked a 38-27 score before the Leopards went on a 7-2 run, featuring another three from Connell with two seconds left in the half, to mark a 40-34 score at the break.
- Four points from Lewis helped the Lasers get out to a ten-point lead early in the second half before after traded threes, two Stewart layups marked a 47-41 score. The two teams swapped scores to a 51-45 game before layups by Andy Madesko and Esmer Madesko, along with another three by McCusker, pushed Lasell's lead to 58-45.
- A Lewis three pushed the advantage to 61-45 before a three-point play by Connell cut the deficit to 61-48. Five points by E. Madesko later marked a 68-50 game before a 9-1 run for the Leopards, featuring five points from Stewart, later totaled to a 69-59 score.
- A three by A. Madesko marked a 74-60 advantage for the Lasers before Wentworth scored nine-straight to cut the deficit to 74-69. After a Lewis layup, Nathan Brinkman nailed a three to mark a 76-72 game before McCusker grabbed another three to mark a 79-72 score.
- The two teams traded scores to end the game, with the Leopards coming up just short on 7-5 run. For Lasell, Lewis (21 points), E. Madesko (17) and McCusker (14) led the scoring.
- Connell and Stewart led the scoring efforts followed by Brinkman who dropped nine points. Stewart notched a double-double, adding ten rebounds, while Connell was close by with eight boards and five assists. Wentworth shot a pristine 59.3 percent from the floor in the second half and was 52.8 percent from the floor overall.
SERIES NOTES:
- The all-time series is now tied at one win apiece, with the Leopards having edged out the Lasers in overtime last season.
