Golf Takes Tenth at Elms Blazer Invitational

SOUTH Hadley, Mass. – After sitting in 11th place after the first day of the Elms Blazer Invitational, the Wentworth Institute of Technology golf team climbed a spot to finish 10th out of 17 teams. The two-day event was contested at the par 72, 6,507-yard Ledges Golf Club.

The Leopards shot a 681 (338-343) to earn their 10th place finish. Husson took home the team championship with a two-day total of 608 (299-309), defeating Amherst (616 (305-311)) and Western New England (620 (300-320)). Husson also claimed medalist honors with Gavin Dugas shooting a one-under 143 (72-71) to edge Western New England's Ryan Zogby (144 (70-74)).

Senior Brian Bak (South Hadley, Mass.) shot an 81 on Saturday and an 88 on Sunday to finish with a 169, which placed him in a tie for 41st. Junior Matthew Pleshaw (Franklin, Mass.) carded a 171 (81-90) to tie for 49th. Classmate Sean L'Italien (Pembroke, Mass.) finished tied for 56th as he shot a 174 (90-84), while sophomore Sancho Rodriguez (San Roque, Spain) was tied for 58th with a 175 (86-89). Senior Jack McGrath (Rochester, Mass.) recovered from shooting a 101 on Saturday to carding an 82 on Sunday, which counted towards Wentworth's second day score. McGrath leapt from 82nd to 72nd among the 86-player field after his Sunday round.

Wentworth wraps up its fall campaign on October 21-22 at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship in Brewster, Mass.
