Golf Wraps up Fall Schedule at NEIGA Championships

BREWSTER, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology golf team wrapped up the fall portion of its 2018-2019 schedule as the Leopards competed at the 84th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships. The two-day event was held at The Course with teams competing on the par 72, 6,687-yard Starboard Course on Sunday and moved to the par 72, 6,610-yard Port Course for Monday's second round.

Wentworth entered the second round tied for 15th after shooting a 332 on Sunday and finished the tournament 15th (out of 23 teams) after shaving five strokes off its opening round score to card a 327 on Monday for a two-day total of 659. Twenty-second ranked Babson continued its strong play this fall as the Beavers shot 613 to edge Williams (614). Middlebury's Reid Buzby took home medalist honors shooting a 145 to defeat Babson's Niko Gianelos (146).

Junior Matthew Pleshaw (Franklin, Mass.) was the Leopards' medalist, shooting a 163 over the two rounds to finish tied for 48th out of 114 golfers. Pleshaw shot an 82 on Sunday and an 81 on Monday. Freshman Jared Turgeon (Dover, N.H.) was the Black & Gold's low round on Sunday as he carded and 80 and followed that up with an 84 on Monday to finish tied for 54th with a 164. Senior Bran Bak (South Hadley, Mass.) shot 83-82 for a 165, which placed him tied for 59th, while freshman Nicholas Kurtz (Dover, N.H.) completed Wentworth's scoring golfers, finishing tied for 72nd with a 167. Kurtz rebounded from an 87 on Sunday to be the Leopards' low round on Monday with an 80. Senior Jack McGrath (Rochester, Mass.) finished tied for 98th after a two-day total of 179 (90-89).
