Golf Posts Second Place Finish to Open Season
Albert Duart shoots one shot off the lead (78) to finish second as the Leopards had all four of their scoring golfers finish in the top 10
HINGHAM, Mass. – Kicking off the 2021-2022 season, the Wentworth Institute of Technology golf team placed second at the Saints Invitational, held at the South Shore Country Club. Nineteen individuals representing four teams competed in the event, which was played on the par 72, 6,526-yard course.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Wentworth had all four of its scoring golfers finish in the top 10, including junior Albert Duart (Lleida, Spain), who tied for second with a six-over 78. Duart was four over on the front nine and two over on the back nine. Duart was one stroke off medalist honors.
- Making his collegiate debut, junior Ben Wright (Boxborough, Mass.) placed sixth with an 84, while senior Jared Turgeon (Exeter, N.H.) was seventh with an 85. Freshman Ryan Dandrea (Lakeville, Mass.) completed the Leopards' counting scores with an 88 in his collegiate debut, placing ninth.
- Freshman Nico Alonso (Madrid, Spain) also made his collegiate debut for the Black & Gold, placing 15th with a 94.
NEXT UP:
- Wentworth heads to Old Orchard Beach, Maine, on Thursday for the Commonwealth Coast Conference Fall Qualifier. A top-four finish at this eight-team event earns a berth at the CCC Championship in the spring.
