GROTON, Conn. – Sophomore Nico Alonso (Madrid, Spain) carded a 77 to finish in third place as the Wentworth Institute of Technology golf team competed at the Mitchell Invitational. The event was played at the par 71, 6,562-yard Shennecossett Golf Course.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Alonso's career low led the Leopards, who shot a 327 on the afternoon and finished third in the four-team event.
• Junior Dan Clapp (Rehoboth, Mass.) shot an 82, which was also a career low, to finish with an 82 +11. Sophomore Ryan Dandrea (Lakeville, Mass.) and senior Orin Mahikoa (Corinth, Vt.) were both two shots behind Clapp, tying for 10th, with an 84. Dandrea tied his career-low round, while Mahikoa competed in his first collegiate event.
• Sophomore Luke Boccelli (Pepperell, Mass.) also competed in his first collegiate match for the Black & Gold, finishing 19th in the field.

• Wentworth concludes the fall portion of its schedule at the 87th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships on October 15-16, in Brewster, Mass.
