Golf Battles at NEIGA Championship

BREWSTER, Mass. – After Saturday's opening round f the 88th NEIGA Championship, the Wentworth Institute of Technology golf team jumped up a pair of spots to post a 17th-place finish at the annual event played at the Captains Course.

The Leopards shot 689 as a team, posting a round one total of 347 and finishing with a 342 today. The 689 was just eight shots out of 15th place in the 20-team event. Husson University (603) claimed the team title while Eastern Connecticut's Ashton Lewis shot a 145 (+3) to earn medalist honors.

Junior Nico Alonso (Madrid, Spain) led the Leopards, tying for 50th out of 102 student-athletes. He carded an 82 on Saturday and an 80 on Sunday.

Freshman Ryan Vincent (Carver, Mass.) tied for 74th, shooting a 171 (86-85). Senior Dan Clapp (Rehoboth, Mass.) tied for 85th with a 178 (83-95).

Wentworth's biggest individual improvement came from freshman Ethan Lackner (Brooklyn, Conn.) who recovered from shooting a 97 on Saturday to carding an 83 on Sunday. This improvement moved him up 12 spots on the leaderboard to finish tied for 87th.

Junior Luke Boccelli (Pepperell, Mass.) finished 99th after a two-day total of 190 (96-94).

Wentworth closes out the fall season hosting the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship on Thursday and Friday (Oct. 19-20) at Highfields Golf and Country Club in Grafton, Mass.
