SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Senior Tate Brandon (Irvington, N.Y.) stopped all 31 shots he faced as the Skidmore Thoroughbreds men's ice hockey team (1-0) blanked the Wentworth Institute of Technology (1-1) by a 4-0 score Saturday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Leopards carried the pace of play in the first period, outshooting the hosts 11-6 and going unsuccessful on their one powerplay try. Freshman Jack McGovern (Ancaster, Ont.) stopped all six shots he faced.
- Junior Kevin Urquhart (Burlington, Mass.) put Skidmore ahead 6:57 into the second on a loose puck in the crease, sitting there on a shot by sophomore Sam Saccone (Clarence Center, N.Y.) that was initially stopped.
- The hosts doubled their lead 4:49 into the third as a wrister by junior Danny Magnuson (Sunfish Lake, Minn.) in the slot beat McGovern and marked a 2-0 score.
- Junior Kaeden Patrick (Vancouver, B.C.) padded Skidmore's lead at the 13:20 mark of the third on a stretch pass made by senior Everett Wardle (Hewlett, N.Y.).
- Skidmore potted their final goal of the game at the 17:45 mark on an empty-net tally by freshman Jacob Zwirecki (East Amherst, N.Y.), bringing their lead to 4-0.
- Brandon pitched a 31-save shutout for the Thoroughbreds while McGovern stopped 31 in the setback for Wentworth.
