EVERETT, Mass. – Four unanswered goals, including two shorthanded, helped the Assumption men's ice hockey team (13-3) rally past the Wentworth Institute of Technology (5-8) in non-conference play Wednesday night by a 5-2 score.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Greyhounds capitalized just over midway through the opening frame as a turnover sprouted a partial breakaway for junior Ronny Paragallo (Huntington, N.Y.), who ripped the twine to put the visitors ahead 1-0 at the 10:04 mark.
- The Leopards knotted the score at one-all 5:47 into the second frame as a rebound from a shot by senior Charlie Reid (Marshfield, Mass.) found the stick of sophomore Nolan Lowe (Toronto, Ont.), who scored on an open net.
- Wentworth took a 2-1 edge on the powerplay at the 9:09 mark of the second period as sophomore Cade Penney (Thornton, Pa.) rifled a shot from the slot that beat freshman Clement Labillois (Bonaventure, Quebec) in goal.
- Assumption tied the score at two apiece at the 14:26 mark of the second as Paragallo managed to chip the puck past Wentworth's defense off of the neutral zone draw and score on a one-handed tuck.
- The visitors regained a lead 5:19 into the third as sophomore Ryan Decker (Berlin, Mass.) potted a goal on an odd-man rush shorthanded, marking a 3-2 score.
- Paragallo scored his hat-trick tally at the 13:41 mark, capping off a nice passing play to put the Greyhounds ahead 4-2.
- Senior Dara Conneely (Arlington, Mass.) sank an empty-net goal at the 16:54 mark of the third period to lift Assumption to a 5-2 win. Labillois made 24 stops in the win, while sophomore Jack McGovern (Ancaster, Ont.) turned aside 22 in the setback.
