Power Play Ignites Suffolk over Hockey
Nick Cullinan opens scoring for Leopards, who suffer setback to Rams, 5-1

EVERETT, Mass. – Four powerplay goals for the Suffolk men's ice hockey team (4-12-2, 3-7-1 CCC) ignited the Rams to a 5-1 rally past the Wentworth Institute of Technology (6-11-1, 2-8-1 CCC) in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- On a turn-around wrist shot, sophomore Nick Cullinan (Sandy Hook, Conn.) gave the hosts an early 1-0 lead just under five minutes into the opening period.
- The Rams knotted the score on the powerplay at the 7:35 mark as sophomore Cole Scott (Media, Pa.) picked up a loose puck just outside the crease of sophomore Jack McGovern (Ancaster, Ont.) and found the back of the net.
- Suffolk took the lead on the powerplay at the 13:28 mark as a point shot found its way to the net, with the rebound being cashed in by freshman Joe O'Brien (Wakefield, Mass.), giving the Rams a 2-1 edge.
- With 2:29 left in the first period, Suffolk extended their lead to two with the man advantage as an outlet pass to the slot by Scott found the stick of graduate student Devin Lowe (Ownings Mills, Md.), who scored to push the lead to 3-1.
- Freshman Scott McManus (Castro Valley, Calif.) picked up a loose puck out front and potted it 4:28 into the second period to extend Suffolk's advantage to 4-1.
- In the third period on the powerplay, sophomore Ryan Webb (Rockport, Mass.) sent home a shot from the high slot to push the Rams' lead to 5-1 at the 2:57 mark.
- McGovern made 31 stops in the Leopards' setback while junior CJ Hapward (West Caldwell, N.J.) turned aside 27 of Wentworth's 28 shots.
SERIES NOTES:
- Wentworth holds the all-time series, 24-19-3.
