#12 Skidmore Blanks Men's Ice Hockey

Thoroughbreds prevail over Leopards, 3-0, despite 44 saves from Jack McGovern

EVERETT, Mass. – Despite 44 saves by Jack McGovern, the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's ice hockey team (1-1) was held off the scoresheet Saturday afternoon, being blanked by the No. 12-ranked Skidmore Thoroughbreds (1-0) by a 3-0 score.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After an evenly played first period, featuring an 11-11 draw in shots on goal, the Thoroughbreds upped the pressure in the second frame, outshooting the Leopards 21-5. Skidmore broke through on the powerplay at the 11:31 mark of the period as a passing play at the top of the zone found the stick of Evan Brown, who ripped a shot past McGovern.
  • After a battle back by the Leopards to start the third period, including a powerplay that went unsuccessful, Skidmore doubled their lead at the 14:44 mark as a backhand shot by Zach Frisk found Kevin Urquhart on the side of the goal, with Urquhart finding twine for a 2-0 lead.
  • Jacob Zwirecki found an empty cage with 49 seconds left in the game to seal a 3-0 win for the Thoroughbreds. Joshua Seeley made 22 saves in his shutout bid, including four on Gavin Klaassen.
