PAWTUCKET, R.I. – Four unanswered goals, with the help of three points by Ethan Lim and two goals by Dane Probe, led the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's ice hockey team to a 5-2 win over Johnson & Wales in conference action Friday night.
With the win, the Black & Gold improve to 3-2-0 and 2-1-0 in the Conference of New England while the Wildcats fall to 1-2-1 (1-1-1 CNE).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Johnson & Wales got on the board just 2:07 into the night as a high shot from the point by Ryan Walsh found twine. However, the Leopards knotted the score at one aside just 2:01 later as Probe sunk home a loose puck in front of the goal.
- The Wildcats took a 2-1 edge later in the period at the 13:32 mark as Davis Bone tapped a back-door pass from Sam Band into the net mouth.
- Wentworth scored on the powerplay just 1:45 into the second period as a passing play between Cade Penney, Max Pineo, and George Weiner at the top of the zone resulted in a one-time shot from Weiner that found twine, marking a 2-2 knot.
- The Black & Gold gained a 3-2 edge later in the frame at the 12:12 mark as Ian Worthley forced a turnover, got off an initial shot that was saved, and capitalized on his own rebound to give the Leopards their first lead of the night.
- Wentworth doubled their lead at the 9:04 mark of the third frame as a Wildcats' turnover found the stick of Lim, who found Probe all alone on the other side of the net mouth. Probe's second of the game marked a 4-2 advantage.
- Lim iced the contest with 2:02 left in the third period, breaking up a breakout pass and deking the puck into the back of the net to mark a 5-2 score. In goal, Maxin Zinchenko made 27 saves in the Wildcats' setback while Jack McGovern also made 27 in the Leopards' triumph.
