Johnson & Wales Tops Hockey
Wildcats score five straight to snap a 1-all tie; Desmond Johnson scores for the Leopards

EVERETT, Mass. – Scoring five straight goals to snap a 1-all tie, the Johnson & Wales men's ice hockey team defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 6-1, in Conference of New England play on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Wildcats improve to 2-2-1 overall and 2-1-1 in CNE play while the Leopards slip to 3-3-0 (2-2-0).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Shortly after Johnson & Wales was called for a penalty, the Wildcats nearly scored off a turnover when Luke Gaffney broke up a pass and went in alone. However, Topher Chirico came up with the stop keeping the game scoreless. At the 11:38 mark, though, Johnson & Wales broke the ice when Kadyn Fennell took a shot that was saved by Chirico, however the rebound came out to Chris Alexander, who tapped the puck to Bret Beale for the goal. The Wildcats had a 14-7 shot advantage in the first period.
- At the 1:43 mark of the second period, Wentworth tied the game at 1-all. Down a player due to a penalty, Nolan Lowe broke the puck out of the zone and fed Desmond Johnson for his first goal of the season.
- The Wildcats quickly responded with a power-play goal just 61 seconds later off the stick of Harout Torosian and took a 3-1 lead on a shorthanded marker from Fennell. With 3:58 left in the period, Johnson & Wales took a 4-1 lead on a goal from Davis Bone.
- Beale gave the Wildcats a 5-1 lead with a power-play goal at the 5:08 mark of the third period and Cam Martin added an empty-net goal with 3:40 left to complete the scoring.
- Jake Inzirillo made 25 saves in the win. Chirico stopped 34 shots. Johnson & Wales had a 40-26 shot advantage.
