HARRISVILLE, R.I. – Four student-athletes registered multi-point games as the Nichols Bison men's ice hockey team skated past the Wentworth Institute of Technology, 6-1, in Conference of New England play Friday evening.
The Bison improve to 4-4-2 on the season with a 2-3-2 record in conference action. The Leopards fall to 3-6-1 and 2-4-1 in CNE play.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Bison broke the scoreless tie just 36 seconds into the opening frame as Zach Vandale scooped up a turnover and wired one home from the slot to give the hosts a 1-0 edge early. Nichols doubled their lead at the 10:05 mark as Nathan Carl batted a one-timer to the twine on the powerplay.
- The Bison pushed their lead to 3-0 just over five minutes into the second as a shot from the point was banked in off of Jack Lee, who also found the back of the net on the powerplay.
- Just under two minutes later, Kaiden Scott rippled the twine with a shot to raise the lead to 4-0 before Scott notched his second goal of the night off of his own rebound 56 seconds later.
- Nichols extended the lead to 6-0 with 1:35 left in the second as a pass from behind the net found Aaron Hamel alone out front. However, Wentworth got on the board with just five seconds left in the frame as Dane Probe plucked home a rebound try off of an initial shot from Jesse Chamberlain that was misdirected by the help of Ethan Lim.
- Both teams narrowly battled in the third, with the score sticking at 6-1. Liam Choquette made 18 saves between the pipes for the Bison while Jack McGovern made 18 stops of his own for the Leopards before Topher Chirico added another 14 in relief.
