EVERETT, Mass. – 15 student-athletes, including four multi-point-getters, found the scoresheet as the No. 10-ranked Endicott Gulls men's ice hockey team surged past the Wentworth Institute of Technology by a 7-3 score in Conference of New England play Friday night.
With the win, the Gulls better their record to 11-5 and 8-1 in conference play. The Leopards slip to 5-9-2 and 3-5-1 in CNE action.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Wentworth opened the scoring just 34 seconds into the night as Mitch McGinn whipped the puck from the low slot into the goal. The Gulls found the tying score just under 11 minutes later as Andrew Kurapov redirected home a shot from the point, knotting the score at one aside.
- Just over two minutes later, the Leopards took a 2-1 edge as a faceoff win from Dane Probe found the stick of Alex Walicki, who wired home a quick shot. At the 17:44 mark, Endicott would knot the score yet again as a loose puck in the crease was tapped into the goal mouth by Primo Self.
- The Gulls went on a scoring surge in the second period, with four different goal-scorers finding twine in a span of 16:47 to hold a firm 6-2 lead. The Black & Gold would cut the deficit to 6-3 nearly midway through the third period on an indirect bounce off a Gull. However, an empty-netter for the Blue & Green with 4:33 left in the contest sealed the game at 7-3.
- Atticus Kelly made 20 saves in goal to preserve the win for the Gulls. Jack McGovern turned aside 31 shots for the Leopards.
SERIES NOTES:
- Tonight marked the 24th all-time matchup between the two teams.
