#14 Endicott Rallies Past Men’s Ice Hockey in Overtime
Gulls knot score at two-all late in third period and edge Leopards in overtime, 3-2; Nolan Lowe opens scoring for Wentworth
BEVERLY, Mass. – Primo Self, who totaled two tallies in the game, scored the game-winner for the Endicott Gulls men's ice hockey team 3:26 into the overtime frame as the Blue & Green escaped the Wentworth Institute of Technology with a 3-2 win in Conference of New England action Friday night.
The Gulls boost their record to 14-5-0 overall and 11-1-0 in the conference. The Black & Gold fall to 5-12-2 overall and 3-8-1 in CNE play.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Gulls struck first just over seven minutes into the first period as Self corralled the puck off a faceoff win and wired it home, marking a 1-0 score. The two teams swapped chances for much of the stanza with the Leopards holding a 14-9 shots-on-goal advantage.
- Wentworth knotted the score in the second period as a turnover in the high slot landed on the stick of Anthony Dalessio, who ripped the puck on net. His shot was tipped by Nolan Lowe, who's redirect at the 2:24 mark tied the score.
- The Leopards managed a 2-1 edge with just 6:05 left in the third period on the powerplay as a streaking Dane Probe pushed home a loose puck on top of the crease. However, Endicott drew the score at two aside as John Goldowski scored shorthanded just 40 seconds later with the Gulls still shorthanded due to a game misconduct call.
- With the game tied after 60 minutes of action, the two teams headed to overtime and traded chances. It was the Gulls who found the back of the net first as Self placed a shot into the goal 3:26 in.
- Despite the loss, Topher Chirico made 38 saves in goal for the Leopards, who grab a point in the conference's standings. Ryan Wilson turned aside 34 in between the pipes for the Gulls.
