MILTON, Mass. – A fast start, featuring three first-period tallies, helped the No. 5-ranked Curry Colonels men's ice hockey team to a 4-0 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in conference action Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Colonels improve to 19-3-0 overall and 12-3-0 in Conference of New England play. The Leopards fall to 6-14-2 (4-10-1 CNE).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Curry took a 1-0 lead 6:33 into the opening frame as an initial shot by Ben Biester was stopped by Jack McGovern just before Nolan McDonough tucked home the rebound.
- The Colonels extended their lead to 2-0 at the 9:10 mark as Taurin Haddon-Harris batted home a tic-tac-toe odd-man rush play.
- Curry potted another tally with 2:45 left to play in the first period as Grady Friedman looped the zone and ripped a shot to the top of the net, marking a 3-0.
- The hosts sealed the game on an empty-netter with just ten seconds remaining in the third period. In net, Shane Soderwall earned the win, making ten saves before Jon Kopack made another five in relief. McGovern turned aside 36 shots in between the pipes for Wentworth.
