Piedmont Scores Late to Edge Men's Lacrosse

DEMOREST, Ga. – Senior Jeremy Kohn (Buford, Ga.) snapped a 13-all tie with a goal with 3:37 remaining in regulation as the Piedmont College men's lacrosse team edged Wentworth Institute of Technology, 14-13, in non-conference action Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Senior Kyle Doner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) got Wentworth on the board 1:31 into the opening period. From there, Piedmont rolled off four straight goals, including two from sophomore Connor Rogers (Shakhty, Russia) to take a 4-1 lead after one quarter.
  • The Leopards opened the second quarter with goals from junior Steven Russman (Troy, N.Y.) and Doner to cut the lead to one before sophomore Avery Jenks (Peachtree City, Ga.) put the Lions back up by two. Wentworth responded with a 6-0 run, holding the hosts scoreless for 13:37 and took a 10-5 lead with 11:22 left in the third quarter. During the run, Doner had three goals while Russman, sophomore Erik Madden (Center Tuftonboro, N.H.), and junior Danny Bartosiewicz (North Grafton, Mass.) each scored single goals.
  • Piedmont used a 7-0 run, taking a 12-10 lead on a man-up tally from Jenks with 12:58 left, setting up and back and forth quarter. Madden and junior Anthony D'Avolio (Reading, Mass.) tied the score with consecutive goals and, after the Lions had taken a 13-12 lead, sophomore Andrew DiPalma (West Orange, N.J.) scored to make it 13-all with 5:57 left.
  • After Kohn put the hosts ahead by a goal, Wentworth won the ensuing faceoff and got the ball back twice off of turnovers, including with 1:27 left. However, the Black & Gold were unable to get the equalizer.
  • Doner led the Leopards with five goals and an assist while Russman and Madden had two goals apiece. Bartosiewicz scooped up nine ground balls and caused three turnovers. Sophomore Rad Stancescu (Suffern, N.Y.) won 13-of-18 at the X.
  • Kohn and Rogers had three goals apiece for Piedmont.
  • Sophomore Jack Munroe (Mansfield, Mass.) made 10 saves for Wentworth while senior Zach Czulada (Boca Raton, Fla.) made 18 for the Lions. Wentworth had advantages in shots (46-37) and ground balls (49-39).

SERIES NOTES:

  • Today marked the second all-time meeting between the two programs with Piedmont holding a 2-0 edge.
