Men's Lacrosse Powers Past LaGrange

LaGRANGE, Ga. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team (4-1) used a strong offensive performance to put up a season-high 19 goals and, defensively, held LaGrange (2-6) scoreless over the final 38:40 in a 19-3 victory Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • LaGrange scored the first goal of the game as Tareyon Delgado scored 4:21 into the contest. From there, Wentworth scored the next five goals with sophomore Sam Prunier (Hollis, N.H.), sophomore Nick Gore (Salem, N.H.), junior Ben Coakley (Flemington, N.J.), sophomore Zach Alexander (Franklin, Mass.), and sophomore Eric LeBlanc (Easton, Mass.) each scored for the Black & Gold.
  • Junior Steven Russman (Troy, N.Y.) and Alexander scored within 1:33 of each other to push the lead to 7-1 before the Panthers' Jackson Bonner scored twice in a span of 1:03 to cut the lead to 7-3.
  • Prunier began a 12-0 run for the Leopards when Prunier scored with 6:37 left. Sophomore Erik Madden (Center Tuftonboro, N.H.) and Alexander tacked on goals to make it 10-3 at the break.
  • Junior Andrew DiPalma scored three of Wentworth's four markers in the third quarter, with Madden also scoring, giving the Leopards a 14-3 lead.
  • LeBlanc scored twice in the fourth quarter while DiPalma, Gore, and freshman Jack Wishart (Jefferson, Mass.) each scored a single goal.
  • LeBlanc finished the game with three goals and three assists while DiPalma scored four goals and added an assist and Alexander scored three times.
  • Sophomore Radu Stancescu (Suffern, N.Y.) went 20-of-26 at the X and scooped up 15 ground balls. Sophomore Anthony D'Avolio (Reading, Mass.) caused five turnovers.
  • Sophomore Jack Munroe (Mansfield, Mass.) made five saves in the win. LaGrange goalies Isaac Bohrer and Jacob Ormond made 14 and five saves, respectively. Wentworth had a 63-15 shot advantage and a 44-22 edge in ground balls.

SERIES NOTES:

  • Today marked the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
