HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Curry scored twice in a span of 2:38 early in the first quarter to take a 2-1 lead as sophomore Nick Perfeuto (Norwell, Mass.) and junior Dane Hanson (Bernardsville, N.J.) scored goals around Leopard junior Erik Madden (Center Tuftonboro, N.H.).
  • Hanson's goal with 10:04 left in the quarter was the last the Colonels would get until late in the third quarter as senior Ben Coakley (Flemington, N.J.) gave Wentworth a 3-2 lead with a pair of man-up goals six and a half minutes apart in the second quarter while Gore put the Black & Gold ahead, 4-2, with 1:46 left in the half.
  • Junior Zach Alexander (Franklin, Mass.), senior Andrew diPalma (West Orange, N.J.), and junior Sam Prunier (Hollis, N.H.) each scored in the third quarter for the Leopards, giving the hosts a 7-2 lead. Senior Jake Stebbins (Colchester, Vt.) ended Curry's scoring drought of 38:48 when he scored with 1:16 left in the third, however, Gore made it 8-3 after three when he scored with 17 seconds left.
  • Curry did all the scoring in the fourth quarter, with two goals coming from Perfeuto, as his second brought the Colonels to within one at 8-7 with 8:22 left. Both teams had chances throughout the fourth quarter, including when Curry had a pair of shot attempts in a 10-second span in the final 90 seconds. After the second shot, sophomore Tyler Hearn (Holden, Mass.) caused a turnover and picked up the ground ball with 64 seconds left. Wentworth called timeout and advanced the ball into he attack zone. However, a turnover gave the ball back to the Colonels with 14 seconds left. Curry's final attempt was thwarted when a penalty gave the ball back to Wentworth with three seconds left.
  • Coakley led the Leopard with two goals, two assists, and seven ground balls. Gore scored a pair of goals and Prunier had a goal and two assists. Junior Jack Munroe (Mansfield, Mass.) made five saves. Hearn and senior Danny Bartosiewicz (North Grafton, Mass.) each caused three turnovers. Wentworth had decided advantages in shots (44-22) and ground balls (44-31).

SERIES NOTES:

  • Today marked the 23rd meeting between the two programs. Wentworth holds a 16-7 series advantage and snapped Curry's four-game series win streak. The teams will play one more time this season, on April 14.
