Boston, Mass. – The Wentworth men's lacrosse team fell to Western New England University in Commonwealth Coast Conference action on Saturday afternoon, 16-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The teams traded goals in the opening three minutes as WNE's Brian Madden found the back of the cage to open the scoring just 1:36 into the contest. Junior Erik Madden (Center Tuftonboro, N.H.) tied the score just 1:16 later with his third goal of the season.
  • The Golden Bears would record the next five goals, with four of them coming in the first quarter. Noah Rust, Luke Serdechny, and Mike Bannon combined to give WNE a 5-1 lead at the close of the opening quarter.
  • Murphy Hartmann tallied the fifth straight WNE goal with 9:14 remaining in the second quarter. Senior Andrew diPalma (West Orange, N.J.) got the scoring back in Leopard favor.
  • WNE recorded the next two goals to make the score 8-2 with 3:20 to go in the half. Wentworth would claw back in the final minutes as Junior Sam Prunier (Hollis, N.H.) and Dylan Hanley traded goals to keep the lead at six and made the score 9-3.
  • The Leopards tallied to goals in the final 17 seconds as diPalma fired a shot that went off the crossbar and into the goal. Junior Radu Stancescu (Suffern, N.Y.) won the ensuing faceoff and drove straight to the goal for his first of the season. That made the score 9-5 at the break.
  • The Leopards opened the half with two long possessions. However, WNE quickly responded as Bannon got his third goal of the day with 11:03 remaining in the quarter. Nick Gamba tallied his first goal of the contest nearly five minutes later to make the score 11-5. Hanley added his second of the day in the closing seconds of the third quarter.
  • Rust, Gamba, and Liam Baker tallied goals for WNE which gave them a 15-5 lead in the fourth quarter. Junior Calvin McKenna (Lake Tapps, Wash.) tallied his first goal of the season before Tim Kolb earned a WNE goal late in the quarter to close the contest with a WNE win, 16-6.

THE SERIES

  • This is the 13th meeting all-time between the two schools. Wentworth is 0-13 all-time against WNE.

  • Wentworth returns to action on Wednesday (April 7) when they host Roger Williams University. The opening faceoff is slated for 7 pm.
