HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The teams played just over nine minutes of scoreless lacrosse until junior Sam Prunier (Hollis, N.H.) got the Leopards on the board with his fifth goal of the season. Jared Grier quickly tied the score, just 25 seconds later.
  • Senior Steven Russman (Troy, N.Y.) tallied his third goal of the season with a long range shot that gave the Leopards a 2-1 edge in the closing seconds of the first period.
  • Roger Williams would rattle off five straight goals in the second quarter starting with a down goal by Andrew Gaffney. Matt Halpin, Connor Hillemeir, Tim Mullane, and Nino Fernandez recorded goals in the five-goal run.
  • Junior Nick Gore (Salem, N.H.) got the scoring back in Wentworth's favor with his third of the season with 1:08 remaining in the half. However, Daniel Civiello recorded a buzzer beating goal that went in as time expired to close out the half at a 7-3 score for the Hawks.
  • Roger Williams extended their lead just six seconds into the third quarter and continued to add as Gaffney and Civiello found the back of the cage to give the visitors a 10-3 advantage with 8:41 remaining in the quarter.
  • Freshman Matt Shultz (Pawling, N.Y.) tallied his first career collegiate goal to end the Roger Williams scoring run before sophomore Liam Carroll (Brookfield, Conn.) kept the scoring in Wentworth's favor to close out the third quarter.
  • A series of penalties gave the Leopards man-up situations and they capitalized with two goals, one by Shultz and one by Prunier, making the score 10-7 with 13:00 to play.
  • The Hawks responded with three straight goals by Grier. Senior Ben Coakley (Flemington, N.J.) ended the run, but Roger Williams tallied three more to close out the contest at a 16-8 score.
