HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Wentworth started a high-scoring first quarter by breaking the ice at the 12:36 mark on a goal by Maklan. 39 seconds later, freshman Tyler Longo (Kingston, N.Y.) ripped a goal to give the Leopards an early 2-0 advantage. Both goals were assisted by Carroll, who later found the twine himself at the 9:04 mark, raising Wentworth's lead to 3-0.

Junior Brayden Wilkins (Colchester, Vt.) found the back of the net at the 6:52 mark before Carroll scored his second of the game, marking a 7-0 score. After the Valiants got on the board with 4:29 to go in the first frame, junior Drew Bouley (Gloucester, Mass.) scored to bring the score to 8-1. The Valiants ending the quarter scoring three unanswered, with two coming from graduate student Nick Cornelia (Lindenhurt, N.Y.), to mark an 8-4 score at the end of the first quarter.

After a score from Cornelia cut the deficit to 11-6 with 39 seconds left in the half, Longo found twine for his second of the day with three seconds remaining in the half to bring Wentworth's lead to 12-6 heading into the break.
  • After Bouley tallied at the 13:39 mark of the third quarter, sophomore Erik Vogt (Warwick, N.Y.) notched a goal at the 10:52 mark to extend Wentworth's lead to 14-6. A goal from graduate student Jesse McGrath (Walden, N.Y.) cut the deficit to 14-7 before another Vogt score marked a 15-7 score at the 5:52 mark. A Cornelia tally cut the deficit to seven with three minutes remaining in the third frame before another Maklan goal with 1:03 to go brought the score to 16-8.
