SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team (5-7, 2-2 CCC) battled the Western New England Golden Bears (5-7, 4-0 CCC) Saturday afternoon, dropping the contest by just one goal in a 11-10 game on the road.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Wentworth set out to an early 2-0 lead over the Golden Bears off of goals from junior Drew Bouley (Gloucester, Mass.) just 40 seconds into the game and a goal by junior Logan Maklan (Boca Raton, Fla.) just 1:59 later. WNE rattled off the next four goals, with one coming from sophomore Jack Houlden (Peabody, Mass.) to give the hosts a 4-2 lead. The Leopards tied the score with two goals in nine seconds from senior Liam Carroll (Brookfield, Conn.) and junior Connor Charron (Tewksbury, Mass.), as the two scores at the 2:44 and 2:35 marks tied the game. A WNE strike with 1:40 left in the first quarter marked a 5-4 score.
  • The Golden Bears stretched the lead to 7-4 to start the second quarter, including another goal from Houlden, before a goal from freshman Colin Ocampo (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) with 1:25 left in the second quarter marked a 7-5 score heading into the break.
  • Houlden started another run of three-straight goals for the Golden Bears to start the third quarter, giving the hosts a 10-5 lead. Wentworth clawed back in the third frame as two goals from Bouley at the 10:12 and 4:23 marks, respectively, cut the Leopards' deficit to 10-7 heading in the final quarter of action.
  • A goal from Ocampo just 42 seconds into the fourth quarter cut the deficit to 10-8 before another strike from Bouley 56 seconds later cut the deficit to one at 10-9. WNE was able to get on the board again with 5:21 to go to extend their lead to 11-9. Sophomore Erik Vogt (Warwick, N.Y.) scored with the man-advantage with just six seconds left to cut the deficit to 11-10, and the Leopards fell by just one goal.
  • Charron led the Leopards at the X, going 13-25. In goal, sophomore Ryan Kalberer (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) made 16 saves in between the pipes.
