BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team (5-8, 2-3 CCC) battled the Salve Regina Seahawks (7-5, 3-1 CCC) in a Commonwealth Coast Conference showdown Wednesday night as the Seahawks pushed to a 16-11 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • A quiet start to the first quarter followed with Salve Regina opening the scoring at the 9:29 mark and extending their lead to two at the 4:12 mark. Freshman Tyler Longo (Kingston, N.Y.) answered the call for the Leopards, dwindling the deficit to 2-1 at the 2:47 mark of the quarter. After another Seahawks strike, a goal by junior Dryden Fisher (Haverhill, Mass.) with 1:30 remaining in the quarter cut the lead to 3-2.
  • Wentworth rattled off two straight goals to begin the second quarter as a goal by sophomore Kobi Buffa (Craryville, N.Y.) and another by senior Liam Carroll (Brookfield. Conn.) in a span of 6:08 gave the Leopards a 4-3 lead at the 7:29 mark. After two goals from sophomore Justin Haverly (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and another by senior Maxwell Van Winkle (Redmond, Wash.) marked a 6-4 advantage for the visitors, another Carroll goal at the 3:44 mark dwindled the deficit to 6-5. Salve Regina scored on the man-up with 38 seconds left in the second frame to take a 7-5 lead into the break.
  • Salve Regina opened the third quarter with three goals in a span of 1:16 before junior Logan Maklan (Boca Raton, Fla.) scored to cut the deficit to 10-6. Junior Drew Bouley (Gloucester, Mass.) scored on the man-up just 1:26 after Maklan to cut the Leopards' deficit to 10-7. The Seahawks rattled off three-straight goals before a tally from freshman Colin Ocampo (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) at the 2:36 mark marked a 13-8 score. The Seahawks scored again with 37 seconds to go to hold a 14-8 lead after the third quarter.
  • After Van Winkle extended the Seahawks lead to 15-8 at the start of the fourth quarter, Maklan scored a nifty goal around the crease at the 10:28 mark to dwindle the lead to 15-9. Longo scored  another at the 4:43 mark before Van Winkle notched his fourth of the night, marking a 16-10 score. Ocampo closed the scoring at the 1:15 mark, marking a final score of 16-11 in favor of the visitors.
  • Junior Connor Charron (Tewksbury, Mass.) led the Leopards at the X, going 8-21 with three ground balls. In goal, sophomore Ryan Kalberer (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) made ten saves before classmate Tom Gardner (West Windsor, N.J.) made four saves in relief.
