DUDLEY, Mass. – In a Commonwealth Coast Conference meeting Tuesday afternoon, the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team (5-9, 2-4 CCC) couldn't capitalize against the Nichols Bison (9-6, 3-3 CCC), resulting in a 16-6 defeat for the Leopards. Leading Wentworth was senior Liam Carroll (Brookfield, Conn.), who recorded three goals in the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Bison got on the board first at the 13:49 mark on a goal by graduate student Hunter Ferreira (Mansfield, Mass.). 49 seconds later, the Leopards responded with a tally by senior Liam Carroll (Brookfield, Conn.), tying the score at 1-1. Nichols ended the quarter scoring four-straight in a span of 9:47 to take a 5-1 lead into the second frame.
  • The hosts scored four in a span of 3:30 to take a 9-1 lead at the 10:19 mark of the second quarter before another goal from Carroll, assisted by junior Drew Bouley (Gloucester, Mass.), at the 3:44 mark marked a 9-2 score. Ferreira tallied once more just 26 seconds after Carroll, giving the Bison a 10-2 advantage after the second quarter.
  • After a Nichols' tally at the 12:43 mark of the third quarter extended the lead to 11-2, Carroll scored on the man-advantage at the 9:10 point to mark an 11-3 score. Bouley tallied with 3:46 to go in the quarter to cut the deficit to 11-4 before the Bison closed the quarter with two goals of their own, including one by sophomore Jack Ellis (Hampton, N.H.) with eight seconds left in the frame.
  • After Ellis began a three-goal run for the Bison in the fourth quarter to give the hosts a 16-4 advantage, Wentworth responded with two goals of their own. Sophomore Jared Hiller (North Andover, Mass.) scored at the 6:34 mark before classmate Kobi Buffa (Craryville, N.Y.) scored with 40 seconds left, cutting the final deficit to 16-6.
  • Junior Connor Charron (Tewksbury, Mass.) led the team at the X, going 13-21 on draws with six ground balls. In goal, sophomore Ryan Kalberer (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) made 11 saves.
