BOSTON, Mass. – Despite a strong effort in goal by sophomore Tom Gardner (West Windsor, N.J.), the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team (5-10, 2-5 CCC) couldn't outpace the Hawks of Roger Williams (9-5, 5-2 CCC) as the Hawks grabbed a 12-7 victory in conference action Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Junior Logan Maklan (Boca Raton, Fla.) opened the scoring for the Black & Gold just 39 seconds into the night before he extended the lead to two on another strike at the 11:07 mark. After a goal by sophomore Jack Kester (Londonderry, N.H.) cut the Hawks' deficit to 2-1, senior Liam Carroll (Brookfield, Conn.) scored for the Leopards to respond, and freshman Tyler Longo (Kingston, N.Y.) extended the host's lead to 4-1 just 1:24 after Carroll's score. Roger Williams scored twice before the end of the frame, marking a 4-3 score.
  • After Kester started a two-goal run for the Hawks to take a 5-4 lead, Maklan tied the score at five-all just under ten minutes later into the quarter, giving the game a 5-5 score heading into the halftime break.
  • A strike by junior Drew Bouley (Gloucester, Mass.) at the 13:37 mark of the third quarter separated the Leopards from the Hawks before junior Pehrson Szuluk (Avon, Conn.) tied the game at six apiece. Junior Matt Halpin (White Plains, N.Y.) gave the Hawks an 8-6 advantage with two goals before Bouley cut the deficit to 8-7 with a goal at the 4:07 mark. The Hawks scored with 3:33 left in the third quarter to take a 9-7 lead into the fourth.
  • Szuluk and Halpin tallied in a span of 3:11 in the fourth quarter to give Roger Williams an11-7 lead before another Hawks tally gave the visitors a 12-7 decision.
  • At the X, freshman Samuel Silva (San Antonio, Texas) went 12-22 while Gardner made nine saves in goal.
