BOSTON, Mass. – On Senior Night, the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team (5-11, 2-6 CCC) played neck-and-neck with the Curry Colonels (5-11, 2-6 CCC). The Colonels managed to escape the night with an 11-10 victory despite the Black & Gold being led by a five-goal outing from junior Logan Maklan (Boca Raton, Fla.).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Wentworth set out to a 2-0 advantage in the first quarter as Maklan scored a pair for the Leopards across a span of 2:10. Curry answered with a goal of their own on the man-advantage with 4:47 left in the frame before Maklan ripped another to the twine with 1:36 left in the first quarter, giving the hosts a 3-1 lead heading into the second quarter.
  • After the Colonels opened the scoring by cutting the deficit to one at the 11:37 mark, the Leopards responded with two goals of their own as sophomore Kobi Buffa (Craryville, N.Y.) scored at the 7:46 mark and freshman Colin Ocampo (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) scored just 39 seconds later, regaining the hosts a 4-3 advantage. Sophomore Brody Dalzell (Wrentham, Mass.) scored for the Colonels at the 4:24 mark to cut the deficit to 5-3 before junior Drew Bouley (Gloucester, Mass.) notched his first goal of the night to mark a 6-3 lead. After a Dalzell tally with 47 seconds to go cut the deficit to 6-4, Maklan notched his fourth of the night on a chip-in goal with one second remaining, giving the hosts a 7-4 lead at the halfway mark.
  • After Curry opened the second half's scoring, Maklan tallied once more at the 10:26 mark to stretch Wentworth's lead to 8-5. A goal by senior Nick Perfetuo (Norwell, Mass.) with 1:13 to go in the frame cut Curry's deficit to 8-6 heading into the fourth quarter.
  • The Colonels opened the fourth quarter with two goals in a span of 24 seconds with the man-advantage before Dalzell scored his second of the quarter at the 11:51 mark to give Curry a 9-8 lead. Wentworth knotted things up at the 5:52 mark on a goal from senior Liam Carroll (Brookfield, Conn.) before the Colonels ripped two goals of their own in a span of 1:49, giving the visitors an 11-9 advantage. Bouley scored with just 28 seconds left in the quarter, but the push wasn't enough as the Colonels held on for an 11-10 conference win.
  • At the X, freshman Samuel Silva (San Antonio, Texas) went 11-23 and scooped up four ground balls. Senior Tyler Hearn (Holden, Mass.) led the Leopards with four caused turnovers while sophomore Ryan Kalberer (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) made nine saves in goal.

SERIES NOTES:

  • Wentworth owns the all-time series, 18-8, and have won three of the last four matchups against the Colonels.
