February 25, 2025
BOSTON, Mass. – A strike by Tyler Longo with just seven seconds left gave the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team (3-1) a 9-8 edge over the Salve Regina Seahawks (3-1) in a non-conference classic on Sweeney Field Tuesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Seahawks opened the first quarter with a 3-0 run, spanning over 3:34 with two tallies from Chris Koltzan. The Leopards responded with a 3-0 run of their own, featuring goals from Boden Landers, Drew Bouley, and Gabe Cobham, to knot the score at three aside with 31 seconds left. However, a buzzer beater from Koltzan gave Salve Regina a 4-3 edge after one frame.
- The Black & Gold held the Seahawks scoreless in the second quarter while adding three goals to their own total. Cobham grabbed two goals (12:21, 1:21) while Erik Vogt added another on the man-advantage (8:46) to give the Leopards a 6-4 advantage at the halfway mark.
- Longo extended Wentworth's lead to 7-4 just over four minutes into the third quarter before two strikes from the Seahawks, started by Liam Cooney at the 3:31 mark, sliced their deficit to 7-6 heading into the final frame.
- Cooney knotted the score at 7-all just 45 seconds into the fourth quarter before another Cobham strike with 10:50 remaining gave the Leopards another one-goal edge. The Seahawks knotted the score again, this time at the 5:05 mark, before the two teams traded opportunities both ways.
- Wentworth managed the ball with seconds remaining, and Longo shifted his way towards the goal and capitalized with just seven ticks left to give the Black & Gold a 9-8 decision.
- Tom Gardner made 13 saves and secured four ground balls. At the X, Connor Charron went 6-for-19 with four ground balls.
