Gardner Grabs CNE Defensive Player of the Week Honors
Tom Gardner earns first conference honor of the season behind 15-save win over Plymouth State (12-8)
BEVERLY, Mass. – After backstopping the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team to their sixth win of the season and third in a row, Tom Gardner garnered recognition from the Conference of New England in the form of a weekly award Monday afternoon. Gardner was named the CNE Defensive Player of the Week for his performances in games played between March 10 – 16.
Gardner continued his torrid stretch between the pipes for the Leopards into a win on Saturday, turning aside 15 of Plymouth State's 23 shots on goal en route to a 12-8 win. Gardner's sixth win of the season also featured three ground balls.
On the season, Gardner sports a 6-2 overall record with a 8.23 goals against average (third in CNE) and a .641 save percentage (second), both career-bests to date. The senior sits just two wins shy of second all-time in program history with 19 in his career.
Wentworth (6-2) visits Manhattanville on Wednesday night.
