Men's Lacrosse Storms Past UNE
Leopards score the first 13 goals in a 15-1 win; Tyler Longo, Brendan Kroll combine for 12 points
BOSTON, Mass. – Brendan Kroll scored four goals and added two assists while Tyler Longo added two goals and four assists as the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team rolled to a 15-1 win over the University of New England in Conference of New England play.
With the win the Leopards, winners of six straight, up their record to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in CNE play while the Nor'Easters fall to 4-7 (0-3).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The lone goal of a defensive-minded first quarter came on an unassisted marker from Longo at 11:19 of the quarter.
- Wentworth broke the game open with a six-goal second quarter. Kobi Buffa got things started with a man-up goal 1:45 into the contest. Connor Charron won the ensuing faceoff and found Kroll for a goal just seconds later. Erik Vogt (7:43) and Drew Bouley (7:00) scored 43 seconds apart to give the hosts a 5-0 lead. Longo set up Kroll with 2:25 left, while Bouley assisted on Buffa's goal with 1:05 left. The Leopards had a 19-2 shot advantage in the second quarter.
- Kroll scored the first two goals of the third quarter before Gabe Cobham and Vogt each scored, pushing the lead to 11-0 after three quarters of action.
- Vogt (11:01) and Buffa (8:46) put Wentworth ahead 13-0 before UNE's Hogan Corona broke the shutout bid with 6:29 left. Longo added a man-up goal with 2:25 left and Vogt added a late goal to round out the scoring.
- Vogt scored five points on four goals and an assist while Buffa had three goals and an assist, Bouley finished with a goal and two assists and, in the process, became the seventh player in program history to eclipse the 150-point mark for his career.
- The Leopards dominated the X, winning 16-of-20. Charron led the way with 13 wins. Charron had seven ground balls. Dante Strong caused three turnovers. Tom Gardner made seven saves in 51:14 of work. Riley Abbott made one save over the final 8:46.
SERIES NOTES:
- Today was the 28th all-time meeting between the two teams. Winners of the last five meetings, Wentworth owns a 21-7 series advantage.
