Men's Lacrosse Runs Win Streak to Seven
Leopards down Curry, 14-6, to improve to 10-2 on the season; Erik Vogt (six goals) and Tyler Longo (one goal, five assists) combine for 12 points on the afternoon
BOSTON, Mass. – Erik Vogt tallied six times while Tyler Longo scored a goal and assisted on five others as the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team ran its win streak to seven with a 14-6 win over Curry in Conference of New England Play on Friday afternoon.
With the win, the Leopards improve to 10-2 overall and 3-0 in CNE play, while the Colonels fall to 0-12 (0-3). This marks the second consecutive season the Black & Gold have hit double digits for wins.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- With 12:25 left in the opening quarter, Curry got on the board on a goal from Jed Cappuccino. With 11:04 left, Vogt evened the score at 1-all and started a 4-0 run that gave the Leopards a 4-1 lead. Vogt had three of the four goals with Gabe Cobham adding the other. Curry's Mac Kline scored with 38 seconds left to make it a 4-2 game.
- Nicholas Cole scored 2:16 into the second quarter, bringing Curry within a goal before Vogt responded with a marker 78 seconds later. Drew Bouley made it 6-3 with a goal with 5:47 left before Vogt notched his fifth of the game with 4:26 left.
- Kline opened the third quarter with a man-up goal with 13:57 left. Brendan Kroll (10:33) and Kobi Buffa (0:04) tallied for Wentworth, which took a 9-4 lead after three quarters.
- Brody Dalzell scored for the Colonels 44 seconds into the fourth quarter before Kroll and Vogt responded with two goals in a span of 2:04, making it 11-5. Dalzell made it 11-6 with 9:11 left but Bouley scored twice and Longo added a late goal as the Leopards pulled away.
- Bouley finished with three goals and two assists, while Kroll (2-0) and Buffa (1-1) also had multiple-point games. Connor Charron won 16-of-22 at the X and scooped up 11 ground balls. Chuck Urda, Colin Blackburn, and Dante Strong each caused two turnovers. Tom Garnder made 11 saves. Wentworth had a 59-28 advantage in shots and a 41-32 edge in ground balls.
SERIES NOTES:
- Today was the 28th all-time meeting between the two teams. Winners of two of the last three and five of the last six, the Leopards hold a 20-8 series advantage.
