WORCESTER, Mass. – A pair of first-place finishes highlighted a very successful Saturday for the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's rowing team at the 2014 New England Rowing Championships, which were held on Lake Quinsigamond.

Both the Leopard Varsity Four boat and the Second Varsity Four boat won their respective events. In the Varsity Four boat, which consisted of junior coxswain Mark Zak (Longmeadow, Mass.), senior Ryan Andrews (Harvard, Mass.), senior Alex Schwarzkopf (Old Saybrook, Conn.), senior Mike Drolette (Windham, N.H.), and senior Dave Patch (Topsfield, Mass.), Wentworth won its heat to advance to the grand final with a time of 7:11.674, which bested UCONN's time of 7:18.349. In the grand final, the Black & Gold took first with a time of 6:49.296, which edged Bowdoin's time of 6:50.263.

The Leopards' Second Varsity Four boat, consisting of senior coxswain Emily Resetarits (South Windsor, Conn.), senior Aaron Gilbert (China, Maine), sophomore Ben Peterson (Glastonbury, Conn.), senior Zach Kemmer (Beverly, Mass.), and sophomore Tucker Barrett (Harvard, Mass.) finished first in its heat, posting a time of 7:27.256. This time was nearly two seconds better than Boston College, which posted a time of 7:29.241. In the grand final, Wentworth finished with a time of 7:22.830, besting Boston College's mark of 7:28.831.

Wentworth's Novice Four boat, which consisted of sophomore coxswain Siobhan Galloway (Granby, Mass.), sophomore Tim Baker (Ashburnham, Mass.), sophomore Donte Cook (Plymouth, Mass.), freshman Frank McCarthy (South Hamilton, Mass.), and freshman Matt Pusateri (West Boylston, Mass.) finished fourth in its heat with a time of 8:55.033, however advanced to the petite final. In the petite final the Leopards posted a time of 8:43.667, which was second to Mass. Maritime's 8:36.606.

The Leopards will conclude their inaugural varsity season next weekend at the Dad Vail Regatta.
