Men's Rowing Wraps Up Inaugural Varsity Season

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Competing in the final regatta of its inaugural season, the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's rowing team participated in the Dad Vail Regatta, which is the largest collegiate regatta in the country. The Leopards sent crews in four boats – the varsity heavyweight fours, the men's pairs, the freshman/novice fours, and the lightweight fours.

In the men's lightweight fours race, senior Emily Resetarits (South Windsor, Conn.), senior Aaron Gilbert (China, Maine), sophomore Ben Peterson (Glastonbury, Conn.), senior Dave Patch (Topsfield, Mass.), and senior Zach Kemmer (Beverly, Mass.) earned a spot in Saturday's semifinals with a time of 6:39.774, which placed second in their heat. The Leopards were edged out of a first-place finish in their heat by MIT, which finished in a time of 6:37.285.

Saturday's semifinal race saw the Leopards' season come to an end as a time of 7:05.031 placed them fifth in their heat.

The varsity heavyweight four boat finished fourth in its heat of six boats with a time of 6:46.567. The crew of junior coxswain Isabella Grassetti (Monson, Mass.), sophomore Fabian Torres (Danvers, Mass.), junior Mike Drolette (Windham, N.H.), sophomore Tucker Barrett (Harvard, Mass.) and sophomore Tim Baker (Ashburnham, Mass.) missed advancing to the semifinals by just over five seconds.

Wentworth's entry in the men's pairs race saw the Black & Gold post a time of 7:02.341 as seniors Ryan Andrews (Harvard, Mass.) and Alex Schwarzkopf (Old Saybrook, Conn.) finished fourth among its six-boat heat and would miss advancing to the semifinals by nearly 3.75 seconds.

Sophomore coxswain Lizzy Astle (Westminster, Mass.), freshman Ty Castle (Oquossoc, Maine), sophomore Donte Cook (Plymouth, Mass.), freshman Frank McCarthy (South Hamilton, Mass.), and freshman Matt Pusateri (West Boylston, Mass.) competed in the men's freshman/novice fours race and finished fourth in their heat with a time of 7:42.426.
