Lane Steps Down as Head Men's Rowing Coach
Katie Lane departs Wentworth after the program's successful first season at the varsity level
BOSTON, Mass. – Wentworth Institute of Technology Head Men's Rowing Coach Katie Lane has announced her resignation as she has relocated from the area. Director of Athletics Angel Ayres accepted Lane's resignation.
"We all wish Katie well in her new endeavors," said Ayres. "She did an outstanding job in transitioning our men's rowing program from the club level to varsity and had a very successful first season. She will be missed by her student-athletes and our department."
Lane arrived on the Wentworth campus as the program's club coach in the fall of 2011 and was named the program's first varsity head coach when the Institute announced the elevation of men's rowing from club to varsity in time for the 2013-2014 season.
In its first season as a varsity program, the Leopards enjoyed a successful debut which saw the varsity four boat win the New England Championship and the lightweight four boat advance to the semifinals at the Dad Vail Regatta. Additionally, the squad placed fourth at the Head of the Charles Regatta in the men's collegiate fours race.
"I want to thank each and every member of the Wentworth community that I have been fortunate to work with over the past three years for their continued support in the development of the men's rowing program," said Lane. "I am honored to have had the opportunity to elevate the program to the varsity level and see it succeed. My time at Wentworth has been an incredible experience that I'll never forget."
Mike McKeon, who rowed on the school's club team and served as an assistant coach last season, has been tabbed as the interim head coach. A search for Lane's replacement is underway.
