Rowing Wraps up Season at Dad Vail Regatta
Leopards advance to the quarterfinals in the men's varsity four race and narrowly miss advancing to the semifinals
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology rowing team concluded the 2014-2015 campaign by competing at the Dad Vail Regatta; the largest collegiate regatta in the country. Wentworth sent crews three boats – the men's varsity four, the men's pair, and the men's novice four.
In the varsity four, senior coxswain Isabella Grassetti (Monson, Mass.), junior Tim Baker (Ashburnham, Mass.), junior Ben Peterson (Glastonbury, Conn.), senior Tim Walters (Raynham, Mass.), and junior Tucker Barrett (Leominster, Mass.) won their heat with a time of 6:50.839, which was faster than four Division I institutions (Virginia, Delaware, Penn State, and William & Mary). By capturing first in the heat the Leopards advanced to the quarterfinals where they clocked a time of 7:18.663, which missed advancing to the semifinals by just under three seconds.
Sophomore Jake Rosser (Ivyland, Pa.) and senior Nicholas Conklin (Stony Point, N.Y.) competed in the men's pair, finishing fifth in their heat with a time of 7:42.220.
Freshman coxswain Kirsten Salo (Gloucester, Mass.), freshman Matthew West (Hingham, Mass.), sophomore Michael Pierce (Chelsea, Mass.), senior Lucas Whitelaw (Waterford, Conn.), and freshman Dylan McGuinness (Methuen, Mass.) rowed in the novice four race and finished fourth in their heat with a time of 7:40.360.
