PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Competing in the largest collegiate regatta in the country the Wentworth Institute of Technology rowing team wrapped up the 2015-2016 season with three crews competing at the Dad Vail Regatta and enjoyed success in the Men's Novice Four race as the Leopards won their heat on Friday and narrowly missed advancing to the finals in their semifinal race on Saturday.

Wentworth started Friday's competition with the Men's Novice Four race. Sophomore coxswain Orion Hansen (Orlando, Fla.) and his crew of freshman Karlis Kaza (Wayland, Mass.), sophomore Padraic O'Sullivan (Upton, Mass.), sophomore Logan O'Donnell (Killingworth, Conn.) and sophomore Alec Boyle (Shirley, Mass.) won their heat with a time of 7:19.242. This time defeated Case Western Reserve (7:21.529), the University of Virginia (7:51.567), Lasell (8:09.703), and Brandeis (8:10.414) and earned the Leopards a spot in Saturday's semifinals.

In Saturday's semifinals, the Leopards needed to finish in the top two in their heat in order to advance to the finals. The Black & Gold completed the race in a time of 7:13.573, however this placed the boat third by approximately two seconds as they finished behind a pair of Division I institutions in Army West Point (7:07.861) and Georgia Tech (7:11.757). Wentworth defeated Fordham (7:21.814), Milwaukee School of Engineering (7:26.410) and the University of Chicago (7:26.956).

The Leopards' entry in the Men's Varsity Two race saw senior Fabian Torres (Danvers, Mass.) and sophomore Dylan McGuinness (Methuen, Mass.) as the lone entry from New England in the race; a race which featured numerous Division I schools. In the 22-boat race, the duo placed 20th with a time of 7:29.775 and missed qualifying for the semifinals by just over five seconds.

Wentworth's entry into the Men's Varsity Four race saw the Leopards narrowly miss qualifying for Saturday's semifinals. Sophomore coxswain Emer Creighton (West Roxbury, Mass.), junior Tim Baker (Ashburnham, Mass.), senior Ben Peterson (Glastonbury, Conn.), senior Tucker Barrett (Leominster, Mass.), and sophomore Matthew West (Hingham, Mass.) raced against numerous Division I and II schools, and, in the 37-boat field, finished 20th with a time of 6:24.634. This time narrowly missed qualifying for Saturday's semifinals by approximately five seconds.
