WORCESTER, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology rowing team competed at the 2017 New England Rowing Championships which were held on Lake Quinsigamond on Saturday. The Leopards entered three boats into the regatta: varsity four, second varsity four, and novice four with the second varsity four placing second.
Freshman Emily Seslar (Plymouth, Mass.) was the coxswain of the varsity four boat which also consisted of sophomore Karlis Kaza (Wayland, Mass.), freshman Tyler Brinson (Lowell, Mass.), freshman Sepehr Khansalar (Cambridge, Mass.), and junior Matt West (Hingham, Mass.). In the time trial race the Leopards were fifth out of 10 boats with a time of 5:45.254 which advanced Wentworth to the grand final. Due to increasing winds on the lake, the grand final race was canceled.
The second varsity four race consisted of freshman coxswain Sara Anderson (Manchester, N.H.) as well as a crew of junior Padraic O'Sullivan (Upton, Mass.), junior Jacob L'Heureux (Sanford, Maine), junior Logan O'Donnell (Killingworth, Conn.), and junior Alec Boyle (Harvard, Mass.). The time trial race saw Wentworth finish third out of nine boats with a time of 5:35.436. This advanced the Leopards to the grand final where the Black & Gold were second out of six boats with a time of 8:17.603. This time was just under two seconds behind Bowdoin's time of 8:15.683.
In the novice four race, sophomore coxswain Kristian Hosker (Nahant, Mass.) and crew members freshman Bohdan Ruhle (Kinnelon, N.J.), freshman James Bednar (Kansas City, Mo.), freshman Liam Jacques (Medford, Mass.), and freshman Tyler Stowe (Attleboro, Mass.) competed in the six-boat grand final. Wentworth placed third out of six with a time of 8:27.873
The Leopards conclude their season next weekend at the Dad Vail Regatta.
