Rowing Wraps up Fall Season at Lowell Halloween Regatta

LOWELL, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology rowing team concluded the fall portion of its schedule racing at the Lowell Halloween Regatta, which was held on the Merrimack River.

Wentworth raced six boats on the day with two boats in the Men's Varsity Four and Men's Novice Four races and had a boat apiece in the Varsity Eight and Novice Eight races.

In the Men's Novice Eight race, freshman Coxswain Marina Schmid (Mendon, Mass.) along with freshman Zachary Gaudet (Dracut, Mass.), freshman Erik Schaeffer (Shrewsbury, Mass.), freshman Noor Hassan (Lexington, Mass.), junior Simeon Pickles (Surrey, United Kingdom), freshman Matthew Schmida (Sturbridge, Mass.), freshman Angelo Lamoureux (Southbridge, Mass.), freshman Tyler Coles (Fairfield, Conn.), and freshman Andrew Peterson (Merrimac, Mass.) finished second in the four-boat race with a time of 14:19, 16 seconds behind UMass Lowell's "A" entry.

The Leopards had a first and a fifth-place finish in the Men's Varsity Four race. Wentworth's "A" entry, led by sophomore coxswain Sara Anderson (Manchester, N.H.), sophomore John Parker (Fairport, N.Y.), senior Jacob L'Heureux (Sanford, Maine), sophomore Tyler Brinson (Lowell, Mass.), and senior Alec Boyle (Shirley, Mass.) narrowly edged UMass Lowell's "B" entry as the Leopards finished with a time of 14:10.8 while the River Hawks were on their heels, finishing in 14:12.8. Wentworth's "B" entry, which consisted of junior coxswain Orion Hansen (Tampa, Fla.) along with junior Karlis Kaza (Wayland, Mass.), senior Brian Downey (Merrick, NY.), senior Logan O'Donnell (Killingworth, Conn.), and freshman Ben Coleman (Avon, Conn.) were fifth in the seven-bat race with a time of 15:03.7.

In the Men's Novice Four race, Wentworth picked up a first and a fourth-place finish in the four-boat race. Wentworth's "A" entry, which consisted of Schmid, Gaudet, Schaeffer, Hassan, and Peterson claimed first with a time of 15:17.1. The Leopards' "B" entry, consisting of freshman coxswain Andrew Campagna (North Reading, Mass.), Coles, Pickles, Schmida, and Lamoureux placed fourth with a time of 16:28.5.

A second-place finish in the Men's Varsity Eight race rounded out the day for the Black & Gold. Anderson was the coxswain of the boat consisting of Parker, Boyle, Kaza, L'Heureux, O'Donnell, Downey, Brinson, and Coleman. Wentworth finished with a time of 13:25.1, which was second to UMass Lowell's "A" entry which finished in 13:10.2.
