Men's Soccer Goes on the Offensive in Win Over Emmanuel

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Griffin Price (Allendale, N.J.) scored a pair of goals and freshman Ryan Firmin (Gorham, Maine) recorded a goal and an assist to help pace the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's soccer team to a 5-0 win over Emmanuel in non-conference action played on Sweeney Field.

With the win the leopards improve to 3-3-0 on the season while the Saints drop to 0-4-1.

Price got the only goal the hosts would need just 2:55 into the contest as he took a shot which went off the crossbar. The rebound caromed back to him and he found the back of the net.

Freshman Nathan Gosselin (Hudson, N.H.) notched his first career marker at 25:50 when senior Emmett Basaca (San Diego, Calif.) served a corner kick from the right to the top of the box where freshman John Dauphin (Yorba Linda, Calif.) sent a pass in the box to Gosselin who put a shot home to the left side.

Just 2:44 into the second half, senior Michael Zendan (Charlotte, N.C.) tallied an unassisted marker when he put home a shot from the top of the box.

Price netted his second goal of the game and team-leading sixth marker of the season at 61:03 when Firmin sent a pass to the low right side and Price beat Emmanuel sophomore Jonathan Ferrarini (Hanover, Mass.) who had come out to make a play on the ball. Firmin scored his first collegiate marker at 70:43 on a pass from senior Stephen Frazier (Bedford, Mass.) as he lofted a shot over Ferrarini.

Sophomore Philip Chomicki (Dorchester, Mass.) made five saves to pick up firs first career shutout. Ferrarini made seven saves in the loss. Wentworth had advantages in shots (24-8), shots on goal (12-5), and corner kicks (9-0).

Wentworth opens Commonwealth Coast Conference play on Saturday at Nichols. That same day Emmanuel opens Great Northeast Athletic Conference play at Rivier.
