Men's Soccer Shut Out at Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. – Freshman Luckson Dambo (Belmont, Mass.) recorded a pair of goals in the first half to help the Gordon College men's soccer team pick up a 4-0 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference play.

Gordon had the early advantage with a pair of corner kicks 12 seconds apart and a shot which was saved by junior Matthew Sekerak (Winthrop, Maine). A pair of shots from Wentworth in a two-minute span both went on target, however, sophomore Wesley Sprague (Naperville, Ill.) came up with a pair of stops to keep the game scoreless.

At the 15:07 mark, Dambo netted his first of the game as senior Ian Burkhart (Lancaster, Pa.) broke free and sent a ball in from the left side where Dambo scored to the lower right side. Just over 18 minutes later he Dambo collected his second marker of the contest when he took a feed from sophomore Travis Singh (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and put home a shot inside the right post.

Late in the first half the Leopards had a pair of chances to get on the board. Off of a corner kick, freshman Erik Treble (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) put a shot on frame which was saved by Sprague. The rebound came out to freshman Alex Moore (Salem, Conn.), whose second-chance attempt went high.

After a pair of shots early in the half were saves, senior Noah Martins (Dartmouth, Mass.) had a golden opportunity in the 51st minute as he broke through the defense and fired a shot from the right side. However, the shot ricocheted off of the post.

At 51:28, the Fighting Scots improved their lead to 3-0 on a goal from senior Tyler Modzeleski (Cazenovia, N.Y.) as he collected a cross from freshman Jarvin Ramirez (Milton, Ga.) and scored his sixth marker of the season. With just over 20 minutes left, the hosts rounded out the scoring as sophomore Nate Boyer (Pittsburgh, Pa.) send a ball from the end line to sophomore Joshua Winnett (Milton, Ga.) who one-timed the ball inside the left post.

Sprague made 10 saves to pick up the win while Sekerak turned aside six shots in the loss. Gordon had a 23-18 shot advantage and an 8-5 edge on corner kicks.

Wentworth (5-5-1, 1-1 CCC) hosts WPI on Tuesday night.
