BOSTON, Mass. – College Sports Communicators (formerly known as College Sports Information Directors of America) recently released its 2022 Academic All-District® Men's Soccer Teams. These teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Wentworth Institute of Technology had two student-athletes honored with seniors Eddie Smith (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) and Erik Treble (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) earning the program's first Academic All-District honors since the 2010 season. The duo are also Wentworth's 33rd and 34th Academic All-District selections since 1995.
Starting all 18 of Wentworth's games, Smith helped anchor a backline that allowed one or fewer goals in nine contests, including four shutouts. The Interdisciplinary Engineering major tallied a goal in a 4-1 win over UMass Boston and his career saw him start 68 of the 72 games in which he played, where he scored four goals and assisted on three others for 11 career points. He is tied for 13th in program history in games started and tied for 14th in games played.
Patrolling the midfield and the defensive end, Treble started all 17 of the games in which he appeared this past season. While helping the defense allow one or fewer goals in half ot the Leopards' games, he also had a goal and an assist in a 4-1 win over UMass Boston. Starting 66 of the 68 games in which he played over his career, the Civil Engineering major scored 27 points, coming on nine goals and nine assists. He had a game-winning goal in each of his four seasons.
The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
